The co-founders, Sue McDougall and her late husband, Jean-Pierre Chartrand had a beautiful experience helping S* get off the street and into an apartment. The transformation in S' life, attitude and vision was truly inspiring. More importantly, though, was the demystification, sensitivity, growth and satisfaction that the Chartrand family experienced. Serge’s courage and resilience encouraged Sue and JP to start Job Impact, which evolved into From the Street to SUCCESS.
Permanent housing and social reintegration through employment is the solution that has been supported by comprehensive researches globally as the only sustainable approach to achieving personal autonomy. United Way estimates that at least 5% of the 30,000 homeless people living in Montreal just want to build a life full of dignity and autonomy and are able to do so. In addition, given the current economic situation, these cases probably will increase.
